Leading the initial design and decision processes and technical development of the distributed drive system. Major focus of the project was on the mechanical design of the joints to achieve cost-efficient implementation of power and force limiting on FPGA.

AI and analytics

Setting up R&D team in San Francisco, CA, with focus on machine vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Have led technical development of a novel algorithm for unsupervised anomaly detection and a declarative memory model to provide learning ability to robots. Directly involved in concept development and implementation in Python and Matlab/Octave.

Global Technology Manager for Packaging Business Line

Adapting the product portfolio to specific local requirements

Architecting and leading development of a new packaging specific PLC- based controller with extremely fast response time. The project involved electronic, FPGA and software design as well as development of efficient control algorithms for path planning for time-critical processes. The software included application layer, offered as libraries according to the IEC-61131 and OMAC standards, and embedded software written in C.

Setting up laboratories for developing and testing of both low- and highpower electronics. Working with transfer of technology and responsibility to the team and building up competence accordingly.

Senior Project Manager

Responsible for development of the product and production line for two new product lines:

IRB 120 and IRC5 Compact - ABB’s smallest 6 axis robot system Considerable weight, size and cost reduction, keeping the performance by using new speed reducers, new position measurement technology, new drive system and repackaging the safety and the enclosure. Setting up the production with a novel test system.

IRB 910 SC - ABB’s 1st series of SCARA robots

A clean and moder design of high performance SCARA robot and its production line with high level of automatic assembly.

These projects involved design of electronics and power electronics, systems on chip with both IP cores and embedded software, electro- mechanics and mechanical design of the arms.

New control cabinet design for compact panel mounted control cabinet, divided into subsystems with simple interfaces, guaranteeing fulfillment of machinery directives and ease of installation and service.

New generation of drive system

Led the core technical work to define the new architecture and new interfaces, utilizing advanced technologies, such as EtherCAT for very high payload communication with high hard realtime requirements over an isolated barrier. The solution reached ambitious cost and performance targets.

Technical Project Manager in Robotics (2002-2005)

Architected and led development of a new and compact industrial robot controller, where the whole system was implemented as one System-on- Chip, using Xilinx Virtex II. Thanks to the parallel nature of the SoC, excellent hard real time behavior was achieved at low cost. The concepts served as a basis for later product development.

Department Manager, Applied Mechanics (1997-2001)

Providing engineering services in fluid mechanics, structure mechanics and acoustics, laboratory and testing facilities as well as super-computing resources.

Succeeded to deliver innovative solutions to our businesses packaged as well-tested prototypes, such as active silencer, simulation tools for high voltage circuit breakers, system for flushing of subsea connectors and engineering tool for parameter setting of robotic arc welding.

Research Project Manager, Current Interruption (1994-1996)

Leading a global research team to improve the current interruption capacity of ABB’s high voltage circuit breakers. The research work included plasma physics and calculation of gas properties during and after arcing, electrode erosion, fluid mechanics of arcs and mechanics, parallel to applying the results and methods for development of new products.

Researcher at Electricité de France, France (1992-1993)

Conducted large eddy simulations of high intensity electric arcs in in turbulent flow of SF6 on a Cray-YMP.
